OnwardUp donates 1% to local organization, Friends of Kananaskis

July 2013, Canmore AB

Now in our third year as a member of 1% for the Planet, OnwardUp Enterprises Inc. is pleased to announce that our 2012 donation will be made to Friends of Kananaskis Country. 1% for the Planet exists to build and support an alliance of businesses financially committed to creating a healthy planet. Member businesses agree to donate an amount equal to 1% of gross sales to a non-profit organization looking to promote positive environmental change. As a sales agency for several prominent outdoor equipment and clothing brands, we at OnwardUp feel that it is a natural step to give back to the environment which makes outdoor recreation possible.

For the crew at OnwardUp choosing a recipient of this 1% donation each year is not something taken lightly. It is important to us that the project or program we contribute to be relevant to us and to our community. Something that further enables people to experience wild and adventurous places. An organization close to home, Friends of Kananaskis Country is a community of individuals committed to the balanced, sustainable use of Kananaskis Country, as well as the protection and sharing of its unique natural and cultural experiences. With over 4 million visits per year, and a population base exceeding 1 million bordering this natural wonderland, Kananaskis Country is not immune to development and use pressures.

Kananaskis, as locals affectionately know it, is a favourite outdoor playground amongst our Canmore-based OnwardUp staff members. With opportunities for all types of climbing, skiing, biking, and fishing, this wilderness wonderland offers something for every outdoor enthusiast. In light of the recent flooding throughout K-Country, there is now, more than ever, a need to help protect and rebuild this area. With a strong focus on trail systems within the area, as well as outdoor education programs for local students, Friends of Kananaskis Country aims to help do just this.

We would love to see our favourite trails and recreation areas rebuilt as quickly and effectively as possible. The Friends of Kananaskis Country have this same goal in mind, and that is to allow visitors from the immediate area and from around the world to have an enjoyable experience in a beautiful and amazing part of the world.

Last year’s donation was made to the Pembina Foundation, in an effort to better understand and educate others on the environmental and social impacts of oilsands development.

We are really proud to be a 1% for the Planet member and with our ability to support a group that is so prominent in overseeing our beloved K-country.
