Meet ZOLEO!

When we’re out in the backcountry, most of us have come to rely on a satellite communication device for safety, send location updates on multi-day trips, or simply check in with loved ones when away from home. So we’re really excited to announce that we just partnered with ZOLEO, one of the newest satellite messaging companies on the market. We think they’re pretty great and wanted to give you a quick overview of some of the features you’ll see from them!

Extended Messages

One of the most exciting features is the ability to send much longer messages than what was previously available from other satellite messaging devices. ZOLEO’s app-to-app messaging allows for up to 900 character messages, which, for reference, is about the length of these two highlighted paragraphs. From the ZOLEO app, you can see a list of all your contacts that have the app installed. The best part, anyone can download the app (it’s free) and owning a ZOLEO device isn’t required!

Ease of Messaging

When using the app, ZOLEO will first check to see if your message can be sent over Wi-Fi or cellular data before sending the message over the Iridium satellite network. This is a great feature for anyone that lives or plays in areas with spotty cell coverage but still wants the peace of mind that a satellite device offers—only messages sent over the satellite network count towards your monthly allowance.

Dedicated Phone Number

You also get your own ZOLEO email and phone number, allowing your conversations to transition from satellite to cellular to Wi-Fi seamlessly. When you’re back in coverage and your ZOLEO device is turned off, you can still receive messages sent to your ZOLEO phone number through the app!

Intuitive Design

When operating without a phone, ZOLEO has a dedicated check-in button that includes location coordinates and a covered SOS button in the event of an emergency. The device itself is rated IP68, providing the same level of dust protection and water-resistance you’ve come to expect from satellite messaging devices, and provides global coverage using the Iridium satellite network.

We’re really excited to be working with ZOLEO and hope you check them out! If you have any questions about ZOLEO, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’d love to hear from you.
