The whole team at OnwardUP is an active and athletic crew but we are fun-loving, to a fault. Many of us follow the ‘work hard and play hard’ ethos and when we get ‘exercise’ it is often while doing the sport or activity we love as opposed to a focused and strategic training plan. The issue here is that ‘playing hard’ all the time (just as working hard all the time) can be harmful if increased performance and fitness is the goal. While there is a certain romance in simply letting your desire to do something be the actually reason that you are fit and healthy, it is worthwhile knowing a little bit about ‘how to train’ and especially ‘how not to train’ in order to stay healthy and gain performance. Certainly for TOP performance a strict program is needed and we hope you find ‘training’ fun because it won’t always entail skiing powder or cragging. We’d like to bring your attention to a project a few friends of ours have started called Uphill Athlete (uphillathlete.com). While they offer best-in-class professional coaching services for the most dedicated athletes they also have a ton of great info on their blog. Check them out for great take aways on how to increase performance and how one can still make the most of their time available to train, by keeping it fun, but prevent burnout and increase well being. This article will get you started…
