OnwardUP & 1% for the Planet donations

Yvon Chouinard and Craig Mathews founded 1% for the Planet in 2002 with the goal to help raise funds for environmental organizations and, ultimately, to solve important environmental challenges. Since its inception almost twenty years ago, 1% for the Planet has certified more than $250 million in support to approved environmental non-profits and has grown to 3,000 members that are passionate about protecting our planet.

OnwardUP is proud to be among this growing number of 1% for the Planet organizations. Since 2011, we’ve committed to donating 1% of our annual revenue to non-profits that are making a difference in our communities. This post is part of an ongoing series featuring the many environmental NGOs that we’ve supported. To date, we’ve donated to eleven organizations through the 1% for the Planet program, and we’re excited to continue to make those important contributions each year.

Ancient Forest Alliance

“The Ancient Forest Alliance (AFA) is a registered non-profit organization working to protect BC’s endangered old-growth forests and to ensure a sustainable, value-added, second-growth forest industry.”

AFA has become a leading organization that has brought old-growth logging to BC’s political agenda and has gained national and international attention for its campaigns. Working hard to develop broad support for the old-growth forest movement, AFA has successfully engaged a diverse group of stakeholders that have played a key role in bringing about change in the province. The organization has collaborated with business groups as well as forestry worker unions to lobby the government and continues to work with First Nation communities to address their concerns over unsustainable logging and find alternative economic development opportunities.
